DbccFilesCompact command went into Suspended Mode

Hello,

I know there is a lot of similar information on the web, but it does not seem I can find the clear suggestions on how to go around problems we are facing right now.

1) We are running sql server 2005

Microsoft SQL Server 9.00.3050.00 -$- SP2 -$- Enterprise Edition (64-bit) -$- 3                                                                              Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3050.00 (X64)

Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation

Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)

2) I have two databases on the server, both of them have a lot of available space (one is almost 640 gb in size, and it has 508 gb free space, another is 230 gb in size, and it has 150 gb free). I need to create the third database, but I would like to use available space on the disks. How can I properly release the space? I know it is not recommended, but I do not see any other way then Shrink database. So, I went with this option with the smallest database. I issued dbcc shrink command

DBCC SHRINKDATABASE(N'Fetch02' ), but the process went into Suspended mode with PageioLatch_EX wait type, and it does not seem to be moving at all.

3) How can I finish this process successfully? There is nothing else is running on this database. however, there are Java processes running on another database. Is stopping all java processes the only way I can finish it?

4) Is there any other way I can release unused space in order for me to create third database?

thanks!
