Recently after a data center outage upgrade, our network people are troubleshooting some SAN I/O issues.
One thing they want to find out what causes the big I/Os, and ask me also as a dba to provide a list of backup and restored process scheduled in SQL servers. for they think they may use big I/Os.
I know backup and restore , esp restore could use big I/Os, but not sure if that could cause any problems, for we don't have any problems before. we do backup using native tools of SQL server and backup on the local servers. We seldom schedule jobs for restore. most are manually as needed.
Is there any way I can find out backup uses large I / O on servers vs other database operations?
thanks
