I have previously seen recommended settings for max memory for SQL Server 2005 and 2008. Can I use these same recommendations for 2012?
We have a centralized group that performs the installations for all of the DBAs within the company. When we install sql servers we prefer to have a standard configuration and this includes setting the max memory.
It is still up to the application DBA to adjust as needed since not all applications are the same, but we like to at least have a 'standard' setting.
