We have a SQL server (server1), with an Oracle client installed on it, and a linked server to an Oracle database.
Now, we have another SQL server (server2) without an Oracle client on it - but we would like to be able to connect from server2 to the same Oracle database that server1 can connect to.
There are all sorts of political reasons why server2 cannot have an Oracle client, and therefore cannot have its own linked server to the Oracle database.
So, my question is how best to enable the connection from server2 to the Oracle database? Ideally, I would like to have a linked server on server2, which would link to the existing Oracle linked server on server1 - is this possible? Can a linked server link to a linked server?
I know that this is not an ideal way of organising things, but it can't be helped sadly.
