Hi experts,
We have many SQL servers that are experiencing symptoms that are described in this KB
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2526552
Application team reports that their application throws this error when tries to connect.
“A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)”
Our current work around is to restart the browser service but it only fixes it temporarily (hrs or maybe 1 day max). We are currently evaluating the cumulative update suggested by the article but in the meantime we are at a lost of what’s causing this since it seems to be popping up from nowhere and the “fix” was released in 2011.
Does anyone know the root cause of this behavior? Was there any OS patch that was released recently that enhanced this behavior? I think we first noticed this sometime in the summer after an OS patch cycle and it was very infrequent then and the in the last week we had many reports of this happening. Any suggestion on where I might find the root cause of this is welcome. Thanks in advance.
Sharon
